I think I’m the only person that didn’t like the book so the only suggestion I could make if you’re ambivalent about it is to not waste your time reading it again.

I say take the book for what it is and take the film for what it is and don’t try to force one upon the other. My experience with film and literature is that, while they may share common titles, that’s often where the practical similarities end.

I watched The Savages while I was taking care of Mom. I remember watching a scene from the film and wondering, at the time, whether I’D wake up one day next to her bed to find that she’d passed while I slept…

I have, unfortunately, not read The Time Traveler’s Wife, nor have I seen the movie. There is a synopsis on Wikipedia, though. So I will now discuss it at length. Apparently, the author of The Time Traveler’s Wife adopted the Terminator rule that somehow clothes don't make it through time travel even though skin and hair and teeth and penises do. That doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me: bodies were made for time travel but clothes are not. But whatever. The second time-travel rule from Terminator is: "Since your clothes will not make it through time travel, spend a lot of time at the gym before jumping back and forth through time." Now that rule makes perfect sense to me and, based upon the pictures on Google images, everybody in The Time Traveler’s Wife has followed this rule. And that's the only rule you really need to remember.

I always read voraciously the first time, not worrying about dates and times and characters, I just soak in the book. And if I liked it enough that way, then I read it again later. I love how new nuances come up when I read it slower the second time.

I love a rainy night.

No, I don’t. You can’t catch a cab. All the cheap people who normally don’t take cabs all of a sudden need a cab so bad it’s like they chopped for their thumbs and can’t wait for the ambulance to come pick them up and take them to the hospital.

Also, people should need licenses to carry umbrellas. There should be a written test, an eye test, and a road test. And they should need insurance.

Let’s not even talk about snow.

I love the rain this time of year and the way the water intensifies the smell of the leaves. I love it when there’s just enough chill in the air to wear a scarf and make you feel really alive as you dash across the park to meet a friend for hot chocolate.
