Here We Go …

A little while back I made a commitment to myself to post something positive every day for the 40 days prior to my 40th birthday. I am doing this to help me focus more on the positive side of things and I think doing it every day for 40 days will help me make a habit of shifting my focus. I’m the queen of weaseling out of things so I’m doing this on my blog in the hopes that my blogger friends will help keep me honest. The first day of this experiment is finally here!
Here are the rules I have set forth for myself:
* I must post EVERY day
* They can be short posts as long as they meet the minimum requirements
* They must contain at least one positive observation/thought or one thing for which I’m grateful
* They must also contain at least one positive observation about myself
* The post can contain not-so-positive things as long as the other requirements are met
* There can be no duplications during the 40 days unless I’m really elaborating on the topic
Ready? Let’s go …
Day One
I spent the afternoon with my mother today. She’s paints watercolor pictures and paints on decorative items like birdhouses and flower pots. We had a wonderful afternoon looking at some images I painted for cards, looking through a catalog of supplies and deciding on what we were going to order, and playing some new paint. I’ve been feeling pretty crappy lately and she could tell from the tone of my voice that I needed a distraction so we had a nice, relaxed, enjoyable afternoon. My mother and I are very close and I’m so grateful that she’s always been there for me when I needed someone to pull me out of the doldrums. I’ve been dealing with clinical depression since I was a very young girl and she’s always been so supportive and helpful through my struggles. I’m fairly certain I wouldn’t have made it this far without her. I came home feeling energized and creative (and with a belly full of ice cream!). We ended the afternoon sitting on her porch, enjoying the fresh air and her gorgeous garden.
Positive Self-Reflection
I am a very creative person and make pretty and cute cards that I enjoy sharing with people.
